Ambergris Caye

Ambergris Caye is Belize’s largest island and the most well known destination in Belize. Located at the northern end of Belize’s waters, a small channel dug by the Maya separates Ambergris Caye from Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. The narrow, 25-mile (40-km) long island is surrounded by the Caribbean’s aquamarine waters and consists of mangroves, lagoons, and the laid back town of San Pedro, which sits upon a low sandy plateau near the southern end of the island.

Almost all visitors to Belize find themselves in the country’s largest city at one point or another, but unfortunately Belize City is not an attractive destination for most. The majority of travelers who come here are merely passing through – Belize City is the transportation hub for all international and domestic flights, as well as ferries leaving to Ambergris and Caye Caulker. But Belize City has some hidden jewels and nearby attractions that make it worth a visit.

Tikal from San Ignacio 

You will be Transfer from Your San Ignacio Hotel to the border of Guatemala and then on to TIKAL the Archaeological Site.  
   
The Tikal National Park was created in 1956 and covers 222 square miles (575 sq. km) of primary tropical forest. A vast number of Mayan ruins fall under the protection of the park. Tikal is undoubtedly one of Guatemala’s most impressive sites.     
  
While here, you’ll explore the park on foot. Photograph yourself beside Temple I, the most iconic of Tikal’s structures, or climb to the top of Temple II for views of the surrounding area. The trails that lead between ruins offer travelers good looks into the jungle—you might spot any number of birds as you make your way along these paths.     
  
Your bilingual guide will teach you about the history, culture, and natural heritage of Tikal. Throughout the tour, you’ll visit the Q and R complexes, Great Plaza, Temples 1–4, the Central Acropolis, North Acropolis, and Lost World Complex.       
  
After a day spent exploring the wonders of Tikal you will return to Flores around 3:30 PM.

Snorkel to Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley AM (DE)

“Hol Chan” is a Mayan phrase meaning “Little Alley.” This little alley is an open channel in the Belize Barrier Reef. As you snorkel around these 3 square miles (7.7 km) of water, you’ll swim past large walls made entirely out of coral. Large populations of nurse sharks and stingrays live in this part of the reef, and you might also see octopi, eels, and sea turtles.    
  
Located off the coast of Ambergris Caye, this marine reserve has clear, aquamarine water that makes for easy viewing. The tropical temperatures also make Hol Chan an especially attractive location for snorkeling.   
  
  
  
  


Snorkeling at the Hol Chan Marine Reserve is a sure-fire way to experience Belize’s diversity of marine life up-close. Animals at Hol Chan are used to getting fed by people on boats, so they’re relatively bold around snorkelers. This spot gets a lot of marine traffic, and every minute you spend underwater you’ll get to see something new.

Snorkeling Adventure with Sharks and Rays at Hol Chan Marine Reserve

Around the reef you can see large schools of small fish. This tour includes a break in the reef where you’ll stop for a swim. Nurse sharks and manta rays gather here in large numbers. These sharks a non-aggressive species, so you can safely enter the water. You can swim as close to them as you want, but please note that it’s against the law to handle these animals.
