The Playa Negra Guesthouse is found in the small town of Cahuita along Costa Rica’s Caribbean Coast. Cahuita is known for its laid-back vibe, beautiful beaches and spectacular offshore coral reef.
Cahuita’s distinct Creole culture is the result of its Afro-Caribbean residents, most of who hail from Jamaica. This being the case, the food here is a bit zestier and more flavorful than in other parts of the country. Visitors will enjoy the nearby beaches, especially Playa Negra, which offers a relaxing atmosphere, good swimming, and a pleasant black sand beach. The nearby Cahuita National Park provides a place to hike and nature watch, both on land and in the sea. The marine portion of this park is especially notable as it hosts the country’s largest coral reef. Needless to say, scuba diving and snorkeling are popular activities here, and for good reason – there are over 125 species of fish and a wide variety of sharks that can be seen.
The Playa Negra Guesthouse is well known for having a friendly and attentive staff, as well as grounds and accommodations that are immaculately cared for. The grounds themselves are filled with tropical plants and gardens and form an idyllic setting for watching animals or taking pictures. The lush foliage spreads over the deck of the swimming pool, where guests can relax in the sunshine or cool off in the water at their leisure. Additionally, the Guesthouse is within walking distance of the beach and national park.
Accommodation options include both single and double rooms, as well as two comfortably furnished cottages. All rooms and cottages are equipped with private hot water bathrooms, ceiling fans, wireless internet, safe deposit box, mini-fridge, and coffee maker.
Additionally, all have private terraces that overlook the hotel’s garden. The terraces are stocked with comfortable rattan furniture and hanging chairs, providing guests with the perfect place to while away the afternoon. The interiors are simple and clean. Comfortable beds ensure a good night’s rest, and tile floors help keep things cool. There are wooden closets to store clothes in, and hanging lights that keep the mood soft and inviting.
The two-bedroom cottages sleep up to four people and are perfect for families or small groups. They both have spacious, fully equipped kitchens that provide guests with the luxury of being able to cook at home.
