The town of Caño Blanco offers visitor services near national parks on Costa Rica’s Caribbean Coast. Parasmina River runs through the town, bringing visitors to the area by boat. This river has a busy dock where boaters drop anchor so they can visit the local hotels, shops, bars, and restaurants.
Caño Blanco puts visitors just a short distance from Parque Nacional Tortuguero (National Turtle Park), which is located just a few miles north of town. Tortuguero Park has a beach where leatherback, hawksbill, and green sea turtles come to lay their eggs between March and October. These animals are endangered, and visiting this area during nesting season is one of the few places you can spot them in the wild.
In the area surrounding Caño Blanco you can find mangrove forests and swamps that have interesting populations of rare birds. Keep an eye out for toucans and spoonbills. Directly east of Caño Blanco you can visit the small town of Parismina, which has a beach that also serves as a nesting site for sea turtles.
