The Natural Lodge Caño Negro is set in the lush wetlands of the northern zone of Costa Rica, close to the small village of Los Chiles and three miles from the Nicaraguan border. The Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge, considered to be one of the most important biological areas of the country, is home to the Caño Negro Lagoon and Rio Frio.
Arenal, famous for its active volcano and lake renowned for world class windsurfing, is located in the surrounding region. This Costa Rican ecological treasure, the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge, is the natural habitat of more than 350 species of birds, as well as the emerald basilisk, iguanas, river turtles, caimans, jaguars, ocelots, giant anteaters, monkeys, and many more wildlife species. Fantastic fishing excursions are available with knowledgeable guides that will take you on half or full day trips. Biking on the dirt roads is a great way to get to know the area as is the walking tour which takes you through local villages with excellent bird watching opportunities along the way. Also try exploring the refuge by canoe, paddling down the Caño Negro canals, which are abundant in wildlife.
The lodge is surrounded by exuberant tropical vegetation with direct access to the refuge's canals. Guests may relax by the pool's wet bar and Jacuzzi, or simply enjoy the vast recreational areas, which feature volleyball, ping-pong, mini golf, and a badminton field. The lodge's restaurant offers a delicious selection of typical and international cuisine for all tastes.
The lodge features 22 deluxe rooms, each with elegant furniture, air conditioning, a fan, and a complete bathroom. The rooms, ranging from single to four person accommodations, are surrounded by flowering plants, tropical palms, and fruit trees. In the morning, enjoy a complimentary breakfast and fresh Costa Rican coffee.
