Rancho Corcovado is located on the Osa Peninsula in Drake Bay. This hotel has clean, basic accommodations and a friendly staff.
Drake Bay is one of Costa Rica's most untouched outdoor areas. Set along the northern coast of the Osa Peninsula, Drake Bay is about as secluded as it gets in Costa Rica. The town itself is tiny and borders the massive Corcovado National Park—this park has some of the best hiking, birding, and wildlife watching in the country. Boat trips can also be made to the Caño Island Biological Reserve, which boasts pre-Columbian artifacts and fantastic snorkeling opportunities. Other activities in this area include scuba diving, whale watching, kayaking, horseback riding, and sport fishing.
Rancho Corcovado is welcoming and warm. The staff gets consistently high marks for being friendly and helpful. While traveling in remote parts of the country, this makes all the difference.
All rooms have a private, tile floor bathroom and a hot water shower. There are several bed options – everything from a single to a triple room is available – and all rooms have a ceiling fan. The rooms are cleaned daily and regularly supplied with fresh towels.
The rooms have great views of the ocean and jungle. You can see colorful sunsets at dusk and bright stars at night. Scarlet macaws often visit the trees that surround the hotel.
Rancho Corcovado offers tasty, home-cooked meals—these often include fresh fish and salads. Big plates of fruit are available in the morning. The kitchen staff can typically cater to vegetarians or travelers with food allergies.
This hotel is set right along the beach and there are hammocks and chairs for guests to lounge in. The ocean here is calm and perfect for swimming. The town of Drake Bay – which has basic restaurants and grocery stores – is about a ten-minute walk away.
