The Río Tico Safari Lodge is located along Costa Rica’s southern Pacific coast near the town of Vergel de Punta Mala. Just south of Uvita, this area is less crowded than other parts of the country but possesses an ample amount of charm and beauty.
The beaches of this region are quiet, expansive, and beautiful. They provide visitors with an ideal place to rest, relax or swim, and are renowned for having unbeatable sunsets. Horseback rides along the beach or in the mountains are popular, as are visits to the Nauyaca Waterfalls, considered by many to be the best in Costa Rica. Offshore activities include scuba diving, sport fishing and kayaking. What’s more, this area is set between the Marino Ballena and Corcovado national parks, two places (both on land and water) that promise fantastic wildlife viewing opportunities.
The Río Tico Safari Lodge is set 3.5 miles (6 km) from the beach in a densely forested part of the mountains. A crystal-clear river runs through the property, flowing over small waterfalls and pooling into swimmable areas. Ample amounts of tropical flowers and trees attract all kinds of wildlife, allowing guests to search for birds, monkeys, sloths and more from the comfort of their tent.
The tents, modeled after the kind often used in African safaris, are fantastic. At once luxurious and earthy, they allow guests to have their cake and eat it too. The insides are large, clean and comfortable; they do, however, still allow guests to commune with nature, both through sight and sound. Ample windows let in a good amount of light and a covered veranda provides an excellent spot to relax and search for wildlife. The tent’s fabric also allows in a pleasant amount of jungle noise – monkey calls, bird song, and more. All tents come equipped with a private hot water bathroom and fan.
In addition to these accommodations, Río Tico has three hotel rooms. These rooms are equally as comfortable and pleasant, and have views of the river.
Each morning a wonderful breakfast is served to guests. Lunch or dinner can be enjoyed at a number of tasty restaurants in the nearby town. Río Tico can arrange tours, and guests are invited to explore the hiking trails that extend from its property.
