Located 440 yards from the sands of Playa Grande, the Sol y Luna Lodge offers charming bungalows for couples, friends, and family on one of Guanacaste's largest and less-developed beaches, a favorite among surfers for its playful waves.
Playa Grande is located in the center of the province, between the beach areas of Tamarindo and Playas Conchal and Flamingo. It is a great location for day trips to other beaches, or for snorkeling expeditions to the Catalina Islands. Other activities include surfing lessons, horseback riding, canopy tours, and cruising along the beach with a bicycle rental.
Playa Grande’s surroundings are tranquil and enriched with natural biodiversity. In particular, all six species of Costa Rican mangrove can be found here. These mangroves are unique trees that have adapted to saline habitats along the coast. Their large and complicated root systems support a unique swamp habitat that is loved by crocodiles and 57 species of bird, including the roseate spoonbill. Boat estuary tours are another one of the many activity options in the Playa Grande area.
At the Sol y Luna Lodge, 8 beautiful bungalows create a small village in the midst of flowering tropical garden plants and a pleasant swimming pool. Designed by a European architect and using local materials, the bungalows have a simple elegance with floors of wood and roofs of thatched palm leaves. All the furniture is handmade and crafted from the area’s wonderful guanacaste wood.
