This guided tour takes you to places where you can see the art as well as the everyday lives of Cuban people. You can talk to locals during the tour, and get a good look at everyday life on the island.
The tour includes transportation from your accommodations, as well as a specialized guide. This tour may include more than one site, depending on the distance from your accommodations and the distance between the sites.
At the Barbershop Museum you will step inside a busy hair salon to admire the displays of antique barber equipment. You’ll also see Cubans getting their hair cut and shooting the breeze with their hairdressers.
You also have the option to visit the former properties of Cuban luminaries, including Leonor Peréz, José Martí’s mother. José Martí was an important literary figure in Cuba during the 19th century. At Carmen Montilla House you can see the former studio of a well-known Venezuelan artist.
Take the opportunity to see how Cubans take care of their own at places like the Ramón Cajal Care Center for the Elderly. You can also visit a rehabilitation center called Senén Casas Regueiro.
Other possible stops can take you inside Cuba’s art scene. At Taller de Grabado Experimental (Experimental Printmaking Workshop) you can see a printmaking workshop located inside the Plaza de la Catedral. Admire emerging artists’ work at the Centro de Desarrollo de las Artes Visuales (Center for the Development of Visual Arts) at Plaza Vieja, or go on a guided visit to the Escuela-Taller de Restauración, a workshop for art restoration.
