This tour takes place in the heart of the Biosphere Reserve of the Sierra del Rosario. Biosphere Reserve is one of Cuba’s oldest reserves, and the site of several fascinating projects that aim to conserve the country’s incredible ecology.
You’ll get to see hundreds of different species of orchids at the Soroa Orchid Garden, and learn about the reforestation at the eco village called Las Terrazas. Your guide will drive you from one destination to the next in an air-conditioned car.
On your trip to Soroa your group will walk past a large waterfall that forms and blue-green pool. You’ll get to see some of the 600-plus rare species of orchid that grow here. The star of the show is the ghost orchid. This rare flower has bright white petals, and at night they makes subtle, ghostly movements — hence the name. This flower has been endangered because of poaching, but maintains a healthy population in the Biosphere Reserve.
