When traveling, to minimize your carbon footprint or damage to the environment, avoid buying plastic trinkets, take short showers, and avoid or limit activities like fishing and boating. Take buses instead of cars when possible, as vehicles often emit excessive quantities of pollutants and Cuba’s standards for auto emissions are low. To support Cuban communities, try to stay at casas particulares, or privately run homes, instead of state-owned hotels.
