Reserves play an important role in protecting the environment of Ecuador. They cover a huge variety of habitat, including everything from sub-Andean forests to dry tundra and rainforests. You can visit the Chimborazo Ecological Reserve to see one of the highest mountains in the world, or head to the Cayambe Ecological Reserve to climb the Cayambe Volcano. Reserves may have lodges inside them - allowing you intimate access to the outdoors - or small indigenous communities that help manage the reserve and protect its resources.
