Posada Belen is a small hotel in Guatemala City. The hotel is simple, warm and friendly. It’s set within a renovated colonial-style home that was originally built in 1873.
Guatemala City is the largest and most metropolitan city in Guatemala. While it’s doubtful that travelers will spend much time here, there are some attractive areas to explore. Zona Viva has good restaurants, shops and bars, and there is a burgeoning art scene in Cuatro Grados Norte. There are also museums and historical sights to visit in the Centro Histórico in Zona 1.
Posada Belen is located on a quiet street near the historical center of Guatemala City, about 3 miles north of the La Aurora International Airport. The same family has run this hotel since it opened in 1972. With only 10 rooms and a super friendly staff, Posada Belen feels homey and intimate.
The hotel’s interior is pleasantly decorated. There are over 300 authentic registered Mayan artifacts on display, as well a number of unique handicrafts and paintings. The hotel has a small courtyard with chairs, hammocks, tropical plants and a small fountain. It’s a nice place to read or enjoy a cup of coffee.
The rooms are clean and simple. They have private bathrooms and hot water showers heated by solar panels. All rooms have bedside lamps, writing desks, stationary fans, a safety deposit box, and access to free wireless Internet. The beds have orthopedic mattresses and the rooms can sleep up to three people.
The hotel’s restaurant serves home-cooked meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Vegetarian and special diets can be accommodated, and room service is offered as well. Meals are enjoyed in the dining room, which features a long family-style table and several smaller tables. There is complimentary purified drinking water on tap 24 hours a day.
Other hotel services include laundry, a book exchange, mail service, fax service, luggage storage, and parking. This hotel is secure and safe.
