Panajachel is set along the northeastern shores of Lake Atitlán. The lake, which was famously described by Aldous Huxley as one of the world’s most beautiful, is indeed picturesque—forested hills and three volcanoes border its bright blue waters. The town of Panajachel is popular with national and international travelers. It’s less traditional then other towns in the area, but the restaurants, shops, and bars are some of the area’s best. Outside town, travelers can enjoy hiking, zip lining, swimming, kayaking, and mountain biking.
Founded in 1973, Hotel Cacique Inn is a pioneer of hospitality and comfort in Panajachel. The hotel is located along the edge of town, which makes for a quiet environment, and yet is still close to both the public boat docks and the more active parts of town.
Hotel Cacique Inn has 34 rooms that are surrounded by lush gardens. The rooms are spacious, cozy and comfortable. All are equipped with a cable TV, wireless Internet, and telephone. They have huge sliding glass doors, large private bathrooms, and hot water showers.
There are wood-burning fireplaces in each room, which is especially nice during the cooler months. A shared, covered patio is lined with chairs that look out onto the gardens—this is a pleasant place to read or enjoy a fresh cup of coffee in the morning. The rooms can sleep up to three people.
The hotel’s restaurant offers both traditional Guatemalan food and international cuisine. There is good coffee in the morning and excellent sangria at night. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are available. The bar offers a range of beers, wines and liquors in a pleasant environment. It’s a perfect place to relax with a cocktail in the late afternoon or after a meal.
The courtyard and pool offer guests a nice respite from the streets of Panajachel. The grounds are well maintained and have an interesting range of tropical plants and flowers. The hotel’s large swimming pool is cool and gets lots of sunlight. Guests can soak up rays on the pool deck or relax beneath shade umbrellas.
Hotel Cacique Inn offers laundry service and room service. There are also event spaces where meetings, parties and other events can be held. The smallest room has a 12-person capacity, while the largest room has a 90-person capacity.
