Let Harold know what you think!
You’ll get a good look at some of the best attractions in Panama City during this tour, including Casco Viejo (also known as Casco Antiguo), the financial district (think skyscrapers), and the Miraflores Locks of the Panama Canal.
During this tour you will visit all three attractions, but the order may vary based upon your hotel/pickup location.
Casco Viejo is one of the oldest and most cultural parts of Panama City. It became the second site of the city after the original site (Panamá La Vieja) was destroyed by the Welsh pirate Henry Morgan in 1671. The neighborhood was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. Today, it’s a great place to walk and take photos. Its cobblestone streets are lined with Spanish-colonial buildings, old churches, and chic cafés.
The Miraflores Locks are the first set of locks that ships meet upon entering the Panama Canal from the Pacific coast. The locks raise ships 60 feet (18 m) in two steps—watching a barge or cruise ship pass through them is fascinating, especially for engineering types. The Miraflores Locks Visitor Center also has a museum that is dedicated to the storied history of the Panama Canal.
The financial district is set in the heart of Panama City. Towering skyscrapers dot the streets and there are all kinds of shops to explore. It’s a good place to get a feel for Panama City’s cosmopolitan character.
