Villa Marina is a bed and breakfast set along the shores of Playa Venao on the Azuero Peninsula. The hotel is small and comfortable and provides fantastic access to one of Panama’s best surfing spots.

Playa Venao, set 34 kilometers (21 mi) to the southwest of Pedasi, is quickly gaining a reputation as one of the best places to surf in Panama. The beach break here runs both left and right and has areas that are perfect for beginners and more advanced surfers. Aside from surfing, visitors can enjoy horseback riding, deep-sea fishing, and lounging along the grey-sand beach.

Villa Marina is set right along the coast—you can look out over the bay as you swim in the pool or dine at the restaurant. It’s a great place for nature lovers or people who want easy access to the coast. The hotel’s 7.5-acre (3-hectare) property has a lush garden planted with local hardwoods, fruit trees, ferns, and orchids.

The hotel has just nine rooms. Each room is tastefully decorated and comfortable. The rooms have plush double beds, a private bathroom with a hot water shower, air conditioning, and cable TV. Wicker furniture provides guests a place to relax indoors, while a breezy patio (set with hammocks and chairs) provides a good spot for outdoor enjoyment.

The hotel’s restaurant offers tasty, affordable meals. The kitchen has a bread oven, stone oven, and an Argentinean grill. There are two dining areas, one indoor and one outdoor, where guests can enjoy their meals. Every morning there is a complimentary breakfast that includes eggs, fresh fruit, toast, coffee, and juice.

There is a thatched-roof rancho slung with hammocks where guests can relax and soak up views of the coast. If the temperature soars, you can cool off in the swimming pool or retreat indoors to the air-conditioned cocktail lounge.
