The Expedition is a comfortable and attractive train that travelers can take through the Sacred Valley to Machu Picchu. Riding the Expedition is one of the best possible ways to see Peru's beautiful Sacred Valley. *Operates everyday from May to December.
This scenic train ride passes lovely rivers, Inca terraces, and snowy mountains. It's a fantastic way to see some of the prettiest landscapes in all of Peru.
The Expedition has comfy seats and big windows. The seats are arranged in groups of four that face each other, which is great for passengers who are traveling together. There are racks above the seats where you can place luggage, and the train has air conditioning and heating. Andean music is sometimes played from speakers, creating a cheerful atmosphere.
This train departs from the Poray station, which is about 20 minutes from downtown Cusco. The ride to Aguas Calientes, the closest town to Machu Picchu, lasts about three hours. Travelers can easily combine this train ride with tours of Machu Picchu.
IMPORTANT:
Between January 2 and April 30, 2018, PeruRail will operate the Bimodal Service (Bus + Train), a service that combines bus and train travel, departing and returning to Cusco City. Passengers using the Expedition bimodal service (Expedition 33) board a private bus at Wanchaq Station, 5 minutes away from Cusco’s historic center, and arrive to Ollantaytambo Station. From here, passengers board the train and head to their final destination: Machu Picchu Station. The return journey is the same in reverse (Expedition 34). Comfortable clothes and camera. -BAGGAGE: Trains only allows a back pack of 5 kilos (11 pounds) and measuring not more than 62 inches/157 cm (height, length & width) per passenger. Your heavier and bigger baggage may be transported in another train at an extra cost (US$1.80/kilo, one way, maximum 10 kilos) or may be left for storage at Peru Rail’s Luggage Storage only in Ollantaytambo Train Station at US$5.00/day. Staff do not have time to verify the weight, but anyway it would be better to leave the rest of luggage at your Cusco hotel storage, then when you come back from Machu Picchu, you can pick it up
Train ride takes 3 hr 14 min. - Pick from Cusco Hotels included. From 2 passengers is private, in case a solo passenger, transport will be shared with other passengers. - Passengers should be present at Train Station 30 minutes before departure. So Pick ups will be at 05:45 AM in private transport and 05:20 AM in shared transport.
