Let Cesar know what you think!
This tour takes you on a mountain bike ride to some of the top archeological destinations in Peru’s southern highlands.
Your tour begins with a 9:00 am pickup at your hotel, and an hour-long bus ride to Chinchero. Here you will be fitted with helmet, mountain bike and gloves. A quick safety talk will give you all the information you need for this intermediate biking trail.
Once you arrive, you will take your bikes and peddle them all the way to the Moray archaeological site. This site consists of a pit lined with a series of circular stone walls which make a bowl shape. Archeologists believe that this site may have helped the Inca research which crops grow best at different elevations. But other theories abound (aliens, naturally).
After that you’ll continue via a more traditional form of transportation — a friendly mule. Your mule will take you to the Salt Mines of Maras. The Inca built these mines into the side of the mountain. Water gathers in these indentations and then evaporates. Sparkling, salt remains, creating a white patchwork on the slope.
Then we will set off for the breathtaking Moray. This archaeological dig is a multi-terraced concave site that historians theorize was used to farming. The lush green grass covers the site and makes a beautiful background for pictures.
You will continue your ride down a mule path to the village of Maras and the astounding salt mines. Here the transportation picks you up and returns the group to Cusco.
