Explore one of the largest and most impressive pre-Columbian art collections in the world. This tour takes you to Lima’s Museo Larco, a museum that is set in an 18th-century mansion built atop a pre-colonial ruin.
Founded in 1926, the Larco Museum has more than 40,000 ceramic pieces and 5,000 pieces of gold and textiles. There is a textile with 398 threads per inch (a world record), Mochica funerary masks, ceramic vessels, and all sorts of gold and silver jewelry used by pre-Columbian rulers. In the Cultures Gallery, you can learn about Peru’s pre-Columbian history—this gallery provides travelers with background on the various cultures that existed in pre-Columbian Peru. The Larco Museum also has a large collection of Moche erotic pottery.
This tour also includes a visit to the bohemian district of Barranco. In total, the tour lasts about 3 hours.
