While you’re here, you’ll be walking distance from the town’s main square. It overlooks Lake Titicaca, where you’ll embark on tours of the ruins on the islands and the isolated culture that still lives here.
Amantani Island is an especially popular place to see local handicrafts. On a hike around the island, you’ll also find Inca ruins on the peaks of two hills. You can travel across the lake in a boat that’s shaped like a dragon. Visit Taquile Island to see the distinct textiles that local make — men here are known for their colorful, knitted caps. Go a little ways off the beaten path to nearby Lake Umayo, where you can see the tombs of Sillustani, a historically significant burial site right on the edge of the lake.
Guest rooms have a contemporary look and modern amenities, including a flat screen TV. Each room comes with a private bathroom that has a hair dryer. The hotel offers free Wi-Fi in the form of portable machines that the staff can bring to your room, which also comes with a direct dial telephone. Even though you’re surrounded by the town of Puno, you’ll get a good night’s sleep thank to the black-out curtains.
Qalasaya Mistico Hotel also provides a laundry service. You can order room service at any time, and each room comes with a minibar. If you’d like, store your valuables in a safety deposit box. There are event rooms that are large enough for 80 guests, and a conference room that can accommodate 12.
You can find a variety of international and local specialties in the hotel’s 10th-floor buffet. This dining room has an especially beautiful view of the lake. Go up to the next floor for snacks and a relaxing welcome drink. Breakfast is taken care of during your visit — it’s included in your stay.
