Placencia provides easy access to the Belize Barrier Reef, one of the largest and most impressive coral reefs in the world. This tour will allow you to fish and snorkel in an endangered but thriving ecosystem.

UNESCO categorizes this reef as a World Heritage Site. This is due in part to the fact that the Belize Barrier Reef is part of the habitat of several endangered species including manatees, whale sharks, and crocodiles. In addition, the Belize Barrier Reef is the home of a bustling population of intensely colorful tropical fish.

The reef is just a quarter of a mile from Ambergris Caye’s shore. This tour comes with trolling and spinning tackle, and an experienced fishing guide. Your guide will bring you to superior fishing spots where you’ll be able to reel in tasty specimens from sustainable species of fish. You have the chance to catch snapper, barracuda, grouper, king mackerel, and jack. When you’re ready to take a break from fishing, your guide will provide snorkeling gear so you can get a closer look at the reef.

At the end of the day your guide will clean your prize-winning catch. Ask your hotel kitchen if they can cook your fish, or grill it yourself at a beachside barbecue. Your fresh fish will be one of the most authentically Belizean meals of your trip.

Whale Shark Experience

Join us on an unforgettable adventure as we dive with the largest fish in the sea—whale sharks! Every year, during the full moons of March, April, May, and June, these gentle giants gather at Belize’s Gladden Spit Marine Reserve. Snorkelers and divers alike can witness this incredible sight while exploring one of the world’s most unique dive spots. Despite their size, whale sharks are harmless and even playful. You can safely swim alongside them as they feed on snapper eggs during their annual visit. Gladden Spit is one of the few places where you can experience this magical encounter, surrounded by schools of spawning fish. Pioneered by Brian Young Sr. of Seahorse Dive Shop, these expeditions have become a must-do for any diving enthusiast. And even if you don’t spot a whale shark, the dive is still unforgettable, with possible sightings of dolphins, reef sharks, and vibrant schools of fish. When to Visit? Plan your trip around the full moon in March, April, May, or June for the best chance to swim with these majestic creatures, with April and May offering peak opportunities. Don’t miss out on this once-in-a-lifetime experience!
