There are a few simple things you can do to minimize your impact on Belize’s environment. Stay in hotels that demonstrate a commitment to sustainable hospitality. While you’re staying in hotels, ask the staff to not to change your sheets and towels daily. Remember to turn lights, fans, and air conditioning off when you leave. Bring a reusable water bottle with you on your outings.
In Belize, there are lots of public transportation options. On the cayes, it’s normal to take golf carts, walk, or ride bikes instead of driving a car.
Belize still consumes lots of imported foods. Importing foods takes a lot of fuel. You can help cut down on the demand for imports by eating locally, which in Belize means a lot of fresh fruit and seafood.
When you’re buying souvenirs, be sure not to purchase anything made from an endangered animal. Do not buy anything that looks like it came from a sea turtle, a coral reef, or a jaguar.
