This tour of the Rincón de la Vieja forest is an idyllic hike past waterfalls and pools of bright blue water. It begins with a drive through the fields of Guanacaste, and then the landscape will suddenly transform into a lush forest.
When you first arrive your guides will present you with a fresh, tropical drink. Then you’ll begin your hike down the forest trail. Some of the natural pools have warm water and are suitable for swimming, but not all — they have a delicate balance of minerals that must remain undisturbed. You'll pause by one of the waterfalls for a snack of fresh fruit.
This trail is near the Rincón de la Vieja Volcano, a biologically rich area with large populations of exotic birds. One of the waterfalls you’ll pass is called the Jaguarundi Blue Waterfall, which is named after the small jungle cat that lives in this area.
After your 3 to 4 hour walk you’ll return to the Sensoria headquarters for lunch. The kitchen here uses fresh ingredients. Once you’ve finished by your lunch you can relax by the edge of a nearby volcanic pool before setting off on your return journey.
Bug spray, sunscreen, bottled water, a camera, comfortable clothes, hiking shoes, bathing suit, towel, and a chance of clothes.
