Sacha Lodge is an eco-lodge in Yasuní National Park. Yasuní National Park is a hotbed of biodiversity, with thousands of species of plants, animals and insects. Many scientists expect that there are more species waiting to be discovered.
One of Yasuní’s National Park’s chief attractions is its parrot lick. Yasuní Parrot Lick is a short trip from the lodge. If you visit at the right time of day, you’ll see hundreds of bright green-and-red birds gathered on the clay. Biologists believe the salt in the clay provides minerals that the birds need in their diet. On the grounds of the lodge, you can quickly walk to the nearby canopy walk. This is a suspension bridge elevated 94 feet (30 m) above the ground, well above the surrounding treetops. Even closer to your cabin you’ll find the Kapok Tower, which is a 135-foot (43-m) observation tower with a spacious platform at the top. Climb the tower for unparalleled tropical bird watching early in the morning.
You’ll see plenty of insects on your hikes, but make time to check out some of the rainforest’s most colorful species at the lodge’s butterfly house. To see more of the river, take one of the lodge’s dugout canoes and look for caimans, otters, and turtles.
Sacha Lodge’s high, thatched roofs blend with the surrounding scenery, but offers a comfortable oasis in the middle of the rainforest. Sacha’s main bar and lounge have a good view of Pilchicocha Lake. The bar is stocked with wine, beer, and spirits. The lodge and the cabins have electricity, thanks to a generator humming quietly away from the main grounds of the hotel.
Sacha Lodge has 26 rooms altogether, divided into individual cabins clustered around the main lodge. All of the cabins have the same high, thatched roofs and shaded terraces. Raised boardwalks connect all of the cabins. On the outside, the cabins look rustic, but on the inside guests will find modern accommodations.
Your cabin will have screened openings and ceiling fans, which work together to the air cool and the insects out. You can retire in the evening onto the hammocks on the cabin porch. There’s more than one, so you can have a little company while you watch the sunset. Each cabin has its own bathroom and hot shower. Bathrooms come with biodegradable soap and shampoo. There is an outdoor dining area, and the chefs will prepare a barbecue during one night of your stay. You can fill up on purified water from a nearby well, which is also provided for free.
Guests can also take advantage of the lodge’s laundry service. To keep from getting too muddy, you can borrow rubber boots and ponchos from the lodge before your excursions. First aid is available at the lodge, and you can reach a nearby medical center in 20 minutes. There are security guards posted outside the lodge, and park rangers to ensure the environment remains protected.
