Hotel Pez de Oro is set along the Pacific Coast of Guatemala in the town of Monterrico. This hotel has a peaceful coastal atmosphere and simple bungalows.
Once a small fishing village, Monterrico has grown steadily over the last few years. The town is actually located within the Biotopo Monterrico-Hawaii nature reserve, which protects important beaches and mangroves in the area. While here, travelers can relax on the beach, visit the turtle hatchery, and kayak through mangroves. The black-sand beaches along this stretch of the coast are uncrowded and scenic.
Hotel Pez de Oro is a pleasant hotel set along the shores of Monterrico. It has an open aesthetic, with bungalows scattered around a garden and pool area. Brick pathways wind amongst volcanic sand gardens and palm trees.
The hotel’s accommodations consist of 18 comfortable bungalows, each of which can sleep two people and has a private bathroom. The bungalows are scattered around two swimming pools and are constructed with traditional palm-thatched roofs. Every bungalow has a small terrace with a handmade hammock and bench—a good place to read, chat, or sip a beverage.
Guests will also enjoy taking a dip in the pool or soaking up sun on the wooden deck. The ocean is also easily accessible if you’d rather sit with your feet in the sand.
Meals can be eaten in the hotel’s open-air restaurant. The food here is excellent and the service is warm. The menu includes a range of Italian items, including marinara spaghetti, caprese salads, scallops in white wine, and tiramisu. Located alongside the seashore, the restaurant receives a pleasant ocean breeze for much of the day.
