This tour takes you on a hike up La Nariz del Indio, a mountain outside San Juan La Laguna that’s named for its resemblance to a Mayan profile.
La Nariz del Indio ("The Nose of the Indian") is a mountain just outside town.
Today is called El Rostro Maya (Mayan Face).
Local myths describe the mountain being modeled after the face of the local Mayan ancestors.
The tour begins at the Cerro de La Cruz, where you will enjoy lovely views of the lake and town below. As you continue on the climb up the mountain you'll pass forests and coffee fields. There also are places to rest, catch your breath, and enjoy your surroundings.
After three or so hours you'll reach the top of the mountain at tip of the Mayan nose. This is a sacred place for locals, and Mayan ceremonies are still held up here. The view is remarkable.
In total, this tour lasts around five hours.
Hiking shoes, comfortable clothes, hat, sunscreen, and camera.
