Hue was once the Imperial capital and now listed as a World heritage site. Sitting on the banks of the delightful Perfume River you will find amazing citadels, fabulous palaces and royal tombs. Many of the sites can be reached by river and this makes an excellent way to see the city.
At 8am, our guide and driver pick you up at your hotel. Our first stop today will be Dong Ba Market to see the daily life of local people. After that take a boat trip to Thien Mu pagoda – A historic pagoda on the banks of the Perfume River in Hue, Vietnam. Apart from their scenic riverside and hilltop location, the Thien Mu Pagoda and its environs are also rich in history, standing witness to almost four hundred years of tumultuous nation-building in Vietnam. Transfer back to the center of Hue city to continue the tour.
The massive Kinh Thanh Citadel is the most well known and iconic site in Hue. Begun in 1805 by Emperor Gia Long, it is actually a sprawling complex comprised of the Imperial City, several museums, lakes, and lovely gardens, all laid out in a series of concentric circles. We also visit the Forbidden Purple City, originally built in the early 1800s for the personal use of the emperor and staffed by eunuchs who posed no threat to the royal concubines. Our last stop this morning is Hue Royal Antiques Museum – a collection of ornaments from the Nguyen Dynasty.
Afternoon: Visit Minh Mang Tomb has an air of magnificence and formality, and its architectural design harmoniously blends with its natural surroundings. Last stop today will be Khai Dinh Tomb that may be symbolic of the decline of Vietnamese culture during the colonial era. Unlike Hue’s other tombs, the grandiose concrete structure, built between 1920 and 1931, is a synthesis of Vietnamese and European elements. Even the stone faces of the mandarin honor guards are endowed with a mixture of both features. Tour finish at about 5pm at your Hotel.
