Head out of Nha Trang to the ancient capital of the Hindu-Buddhist Champa civilization, Phan Rang. Explore 13th-century temples, empty beaches and the oldest pottery village in Vietnam on this full-day Cham culture tour.
Travel 60 miles (95 km) south of Nha Trang to Phan Rang City. Still home to a small population of Cham people today, this area was once the thriving Cham capital of Panduranga. Before you dive into the history and culture of the Cham civilization, take a break from the journey at Ca Na beach area. You will be able to swim here, and the water is usually crystal clear.
After a Vietnamese lunch, visit the Bau Truc Pottery Village where the Cham people have been making traditional pottery for centuries. Here, you will wander through the village, observe the potters in the open workshops and have a chance to buy some souvenirs.
Your next stop will be the Poklong Garai temple which was built to honor King Po Klaung Garai who ruled the Champa kingdom between 1285 and 1307. The intricately carved structure is a fantastically preserved example of Cham architecture. Before heading back to Nha Trang, you’ll also pay a visit to the Porome tower which was the last temple built by the Champa in the 17th century.
