For an off-the-beaten track local experience in Hue, head out to town to the peaceful Thanh Toan Village. This tour includes biking, fishing, farming and a cooking class, all with local villagers who benefit directly from your visit.
You’ll reach Thanh Toan Village by bike and cycle past the morning market, colorful family temples, and rice fields stretching all the way to the hills. Upon entering the village you’ll also pass by the Thanh Toan tiled bridge, a beautiful example of traditional architecture from the 18th century. Nearby, the Thanh Toan Museum exhibits a wide variety of agricultural tools to explain the details of Vietnamese life and culture.
You’ll take a short break for a drink at the Thanh Toan Eco Home and then split up into groups to take turns on a quick fishing trip on the Nhu Y River and accompanying the local farmers in the fields.
You’ll then take your catch and any vegetables you’ve picked into the kitchen to learn about Vietnamese cuisine. Under your host’s guidance, you’ll create three Hue specialities which you’ll eat for lunch. Once you have eaten and thanked your hosts you will get back on your bike to return to Hue.
